LORE LORE LORE
I still remember thinking about LORE as a comic series in our ( TP and me ) kitchen around december 2002. My initial idea and what I thought was cool never made it into the comic, which is fine, TP made my idea better and gave it character and charm. Though oneday, I’ll release a super LORE book and draw that sequence up!
An aside, the kitchen chat was a day after DC/Wildstorm cancelled Automatic Kafka and tore up my contract to draw a ltd series written by Howard Chaykin. Thanks DC you really gave me the energy and fire to do my own shit at that moment!
Lore to me was a success. We got to tell the first arc of our story and it was well recieved and even got optioned ( film and television ) a few times!
It was first optioned by Warner Bros and had a cool director and super star attached ( The Rock ), damn we thought we had it made :D! It got real close to the starting blok, sure it was very different from "our" Lore but it was still kinda exciting until it’s not, and you’re told nah, they have better things to do etc. I have heard that a few times, LORE, WWR, ZVR all got close, but no proverbial cigar to blow!
Back to the comic, I still dig it, I dig the writing, I dig the art ( even though it’s a later day Hellspawn type style ) ( yup I created the Hellspawn comic with Brian Bendis and did a bunch of the issues, that’s another story for another time, a very positive and great story ) and I was moving away from the style as it was kinda limiting and I was getting bored of it. I was getting into the texture of the well drawn line and simple coloring.
So, we closed out the firt arc of Lore, and had the second arc planned. But there wasnt a point where it seemed to fit. D’arain, MGS, ZVR got in the way. It sounds cliché to say, but the second arc is where it really comes alive.
I guess when our original publisher released a TV show comic adaption with the same name "LORE" we lost all our spirit to pursue Lore any longer at its original home.
So there ya go, a very truncated Lore thingy. We hope to do more Lore someday, we have explored many stories from the LORE world together just chatting and speaking shit, maybe that’s all that’s needed?
